The Original Colour Lithograph was designed by Hermann Kosel in 1935 and Published for the Vienna Informations at tourist offices.
Hermann Kosel, who was born on March 20, 1896 in Vienna, attended the grammar school from 1911 to 1914 and attended the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied under Rudolf Bacher and Ferdinand Schmutzer. After his military service during the First World War, Kosel first began a career as a portrait painter. In 1921 he founded together with his friend Rolf Frey and the work created in this studio was cutting-edge, modern design.
Hermann Kosel fled with his Jewish wife to Switzerland in September 1938, where he again tried to build a career as a graphic designer. After the war the couple returned to Vienna and continued his career in commercial graphics. He worked primarily for cultural and humanitarian institutions: The Cultural Office of the City of Vienna, the Vienna Festival and also the Historical Museum of the City of Vienna were important clients.
